Are you a trade-qualified mechanic looking to apply your skills to equipment that actually saves lives? We are seeking a dedicated Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join a large State Government department’s fleet team based in Yatala.

This is a unique opportunity to maintain a specialised fleet of emergency response vehicles. You will play a critical role in ensuring frontline services remain operational and safe for the community.


The Role

Working within a supportive fleet maintenance team, you will be responsible for the high-level servicing, repair, and diagnostic maintenance of heavy vehicle equipment.

Your daily duties will include:

  • Specialised Maintenance: Undertake servicing and repairs on fire appliances and pumping systems to ensure compliance with heavy vehicle legislation and manufacturer specifications.

  • Diagnostics: Use advanced electronic diagnostic equipment and road tests to identify and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.

  • Safety & Compliance: Use hand/specialty tools safely, ensuring all work meets strict Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.

  • Fleet Systems: Use computers and electronic devices to update job sheets, parts listings, and inventories via an electronic Fleet Maintenance System.

  • Communication: Work closely with the Workshop Supervisor to report on vehicle conditions and maintenance progress.

What you need to bring

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Trade Qualification: Must be a heavy vehicle trade-qualified mechanic.

  • Safety First: A current White Card (General Induction Training).

  • Licensing: A current C-Class manual driver’s licence (an MR Licence is highly desirable).

  • Compliance: You must be willing to undergo a standard National Police Check.

  • Technical Savvy: Comfort using electronic diagnostic tools and basic computer systems for fleet logging.
